Tips for Hosting a Grand Event
Whether this is your first time hosting a Grand Event, or you host one every Book Fair, here are some tips for making it a success.
Pick a day that doesn’t have other major Book Fair events happening.
Plan for extra volunteers to be on hand to greet guests and provide directions.
Group visits by classes or grade levels, spreading them throughout the day or as a special morning for each grade level.
Send out invitations two to three weeks in advance.
Make sure to plan plenty of time for shopping the Book Fair!
Benefits
• Gives students a chance to spend time with their loved ones and learn more about each other
• Helps build kids’ home libraries
• Provides another avenue for increasing Fair
participation and sales
GREAT Ideas
• Access helpful Grand Event resources, such as invitations and signs, online. Toolkit keyword: GRAND EVENT
• Invite grandparents, relatives, aunts or uncles, neighbors, or devoted caregivers. They are eager to participate but often get overlooked.
• Keep the food simple: punch, sandwiches, and fruit. As an alternative, host a breakfast event with donuts and coffee.

• Plan grandparent visits for different days of the week instead of holding one big event.
• Try grouping visits by classes or grade levels to avoid overcrowding.
• Send invitations, including an Online Fair* link, to out-of-town loved ones. They can still be a part of the Fair by ordering books online.
