Grab a muf n, pour a cup of your favorite breakfast beverage, and get ready to discuss practical and innovative ways to build excitement before, during, and after your Book Fair. You will walk away from sharing a morning meal having the ingredients for a recipe for success: a winning combination to support student choice, provide access to books, and encourage family and community involvement.
Access to Books: Game changer for kids Donalyn Miller
Children with meaningful access to books succeed at higher levels and experience greater engagement with reading. In this session, you will examine the current research on book access in schools, libraries, and homes; discuss intellectual and cultural access concerns like diversity and leveling; and explore resources and strategies for developing and sustaining high-quality classroom library collections that support students’ reading lives.
Ambassador Schu’s Review of Books for you and your Readers, Too! John Schumacher
Calling all elementary school teachers, librarians, and administrators! Join in a conversation with Mr. Schu as he presents some of the best new picture books, early readers, and chapter books for emergent, transitional, and  uent readers. In typical Mr. Schu fashion, he will share book trailers, websites, activities, and interviews you can easily incorporate into lessons and booktalks to get everyone on your campus hurrying to your bookshelves to  nd the perfect book.
Booktalking: Transforming Dormant to Passionate Readers Susan katz
Creating and delivering great and memorable booktalks can transform dormant readers into passionate readers who crave new books. Making booktalking a daily practice allows students to hear aboout 180 books each year and enables them to become better consumers of the books they want to read. This session will provide the tools and activities to create a vibrant booktalking culture on your campus or in your classroom.
Building a love of Reading campus-Wide Brandon Blom & Todd Nesloney
Book Prom?! Secret Society of Readers?! Literacy-O-Lanterns?! Two principals, one from California and the other from Texas, will share their journey of focusing on building a love of reading campus-wide, and getting rid of rewards and computer-based reading programs.
Developing identity and Empathy Through independent Reading chad Everett
During this session, participants will step inside Chad Everett’s classroom as he models how independent reading can be harnessed as an opportunity to help students foster positive self-identities and develop empathy and understanding for others. Participants will explore how to move beyond simply providing access to diverse texts to critically examining how to incorporate diverse texts within their instruction.
