When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he su ered from
ADHD, dyslexia, and behavioral problems. Dav
was so disruptive in class that his teachers
made him sit out in the hall every day. Luckily,
Dav loved to draw and make up stories, so he
spent his time in the hallway creating his own
original comic books. This is how he created a
comic book about a superhero named Captain
Underpants, which now has more than 80 million
copies in print and has been translated into more than 25 languages. DreamWorks Animation released the feature film adaptation of Captain Underpants in 2017. Dav’s latest book series, Dog Man, was an instant New York Times Best Seller, with each book debuting at number 1. Dav is also the creator of The Paperboy which won a Caldecott Honor, the California Young Reader Medal-winning Dog Breath, and the author of the best-selling Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot series. Andrea Davis Pinkney is the author of many acclaimed books for young readers, including picture books, novels, poetry and works of non- fiction. Her books have received multiple awards including the Coretta Scott King, Boston Globe/ Horn Book and the American Library Association Arbuthnot Lecture.
In 2017, A Poem for Peter: The Story of Ezra Jack
Keats and the Creation of The Snowy Day earned the Sydney Taylor Silver Medal from the Association of Jewish Libraries, as well as three starred reviews and mention on many best book lists. Martin Rising: Requiem for a King, is her most recent collaboration with husband Brian Pinkney, a multiple Caldecott Honor illustrator. Andrea is also a gifted editor of children’s books.
