GREAT Ideas
• Invite grandparents, relatives, aunts or uncles, neighbors, or devoted caregivers. They are eager to participate but often get overlooked.
• Keep the food simple: punch, sandwiches, and fruit. As an alternative, host a breakfast event with donuts and coffee.
• Have a photo op so loved ones can have pictures taken with their student. Share them with grands as a thank you for attending.
• Recruit Junior Crew members to help with event promotion and customer service.
Tips for Hosting a Grand Event:
Whether this is your first time hosting a Grand Event, or you host one every Book Fair, here are some tips for making it a success.
Pick a day that doesn’t have other major Book Fair events happening.
Plan for extra volunteers to be on hand to greet guests and provide directions.
Send out invitations two to three weeks in advance.
Make sure to plan plenty of time for shopping
the Book Fair!
*The Online Fair is not provided to “Buy One, Get One Free” Book Fairs. **Bookplates are not available to “Buy One, Get One Free” Book Fairs.
Group visits by classes or grade levels, spreading them throughout the day or as a special morning for each grade level.
Real-World
Story
Grand Event Welcomes Reading Role Models
Castaic Elementary School Castaic, CA
At Castaic Elementary School, the most popular and well-attended event during Book Fair week was their Grand Event! The Book Fair team heavily promoted the event, knowing how much students and grand- parents enjoy the special time together. Grandparents were invited to join their student for lunch, followed by Book Fair shopping. Castaic increased sales by eight percent! But for the school, the biggest success was exposing kids to different books while surrounded by role models who encourage and enjoy reading.
