Real-world STORY
Shoppers Fill the Boot to Lasso Great Books for All!
Sabine Pass School
Sabine Pass, TX
Book Fair planners at Sabine Pass ISD called attention to their All for Books campaign table with bal- loons, a bandana table skirt, sign, and prizes. They even used a real cowboy boot to collect donations for their Wild West themed Book Fair. Shoppers gave change or a few dollars to “Fill the Boot” with a promise that students would get to pick a prize! Then donors complet- ed boot-shaped book slips to add to the display.
Kick off a schoolwide All for Books coin challenge, where students donate loose change each day. Follow these simple steps below:
1. Identify who will receive the books purchased with the donations.
2. Place a collection container for each grade level inside the Book Fair.
3. Designate a different coin for each day of the week: Collect pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday, and any coin on Friday.
4. Remind students daily through advertis- ing, including stickers to wear home.
5. Count the totals each day and share the results to motivate students.
6. Award a prize to the winning grade level!
