Tropes in Children’s Literature

Based on School Library Journal’s day-long workshops and multi-week online courses on diversity and cultural competency for librarians, this session will o er a deep-dive into problematic issues in text and art that librarians, book selectors, and anyone engaging in readers’ advisory or book promotion should be aware of and able to identify. Attendees will then put this knowledge to use through a hands-on evaluation activity using popular picture books.
Best suited for educators and librarians serving students. Grades K-6.
