Jennifer LaGarde, also known as Library Girl, is a lifelong educator and learner. With over 20 years of experience in public education, Jennifer has served as
a classroom teacher, teacher-librarian, digital teaching and learning specialist, district-level support sta , and state-wide leader as a consultant for both the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the Friday Institute for Instructional Innovation. Jennifer is a past winner of the I Love My Librarian award, a collaborative program of Carnegie Corporation of New York, the New York Public Library, The New York Times, and the American Library Association. She was also named a Library Journal “Mover and Shaker” for her e orts as a school library advocate. Jennifer earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in English/language arts from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She earned her master’s degree in library science from Appalachian State University and holds a National Board Certification in the area of school library media. Jennifer currently works with teachers, librarians, instructional technologists, instructional coaches, and building- and district-level leaders
around the world to develop innovative instructional practices that serve the literacy needs of students while infusing technology in meaningful ways. Jennifer has published numerous articles on best educational practices for journals, such as Teacher Librarian, ISTE, School Library Connections, and Knowledge Quest. Jennifer currently resides in Olympia, Washington, where she spends time chasing after her three dogs and updating her award-winning blog, The Adventures of Library Girl, where she proves you don’t have to be a superhero to be a teacher- librarian, but having a cape sure helps. Dr. Teri Lesesne teaches courses in literature for children, tweens, and teens. Prior to that, Teri taught middle school ELAR for 15 years. She is past-president of ALAN, TCTELA, and other literacy organizations. She has written columns for Journal of Reading and Voices from the Middle, along with dozens of articles in professional journals. She is currently working on a book with Donalyn Miller. Jess Lifshitz teaches fifth grade literacy in Northbrook, Illinois, at Meadowbrook Elementary School. JoEllen McCarthy, a dedicated educator for more than 20 years, is a self- proclaimed “literacy geek.” Her considerable knowledge of e ective literacy practices and child development, coupled with her passion and expertise for children’s literature, make her a significant resource in the school districts she serves. JoEllen holds degrees from Loyola University Maryland and New York University, as well as an administrative degree from Hofstra University.
