PRESENTERS
Dr. Jarred Amato is a high school English teacher in Nashville, Tennessee, and the founder of Project LIT Community, a national literacy movement. Jarred is an avid reader, writer, and speaker who enjoys collaborating and connecting with fellow educators to improve literacy access, attitudes, and outcomes. Jarred, a two-time MNPS Blue Ribbon teacher, has served in several teacher-leadership roles over the past decade. Originally from Newton, Massachusetts, Dr. Amato received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University, his M.A.T. from Belmont University, and his Ed.D. from Lipscomb University. Lynsey Burkins has been an educator for 15 years in Dublin, Ohio, in  rst through third grades, as well as a literacy coach and technology integration specialist. Burkins received her Master’s degree from Ohio State University in language, literacy, and culture, with a focus on critical literacy. She has presented at NCTE, ILA, OCTE, Nerd Camp, and The Dublin Literacy Conference. She has written pieces for Scholastic Magazines and Classroom Communities and is a contributor to Game Changer! by Donalyn Miller and Colby Sharp. She has an article in a book being published by Rethinking Schools and is a member of the council for National Council of Teachers of English, as well as her local school literacy council. Mahnaz Dar is a reference and professional reading editor at School Library Journal (SLJ) and Library Journal (LJ). She is the editor of the annual Reference Supplement, and she also handles (and loves) graphic novels. Mahnaz has helped shape and teach the curriculum for the LJ Diversity and Cultural Competency Workshops for librarians and is committed to making children’s and YA Lit a more inclusive place. Antero Garcia is an assistant professor in the graduate school of education
at Stanford University. His work explores how technology and gaming shape learning, literacy practices, and civic identities. His research, which is focused
on equitable teaching and learning opportunities for urban youth through the use of participatory media and gameplay, led Antero to co-design the Critical Design and Gaming School — a public high school in South Central Los Angeles. Antero received his Ph.D. in the Urban Schooling division of the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
