From terrorist attacks to sexual assault, the 24-hour news cycle exposes kids (and adults) to tough topics every day. In this session, participants will talk about ways to use books as an antidote to the trauma- lled information overload that has in ltrated our lives. We’ll explore some of the latest titles to help readers feel safe, develop skills for navigating con ict, and employ empathy in the face of increasingly divisive narratives in the news.

Learn how to maximize the e ectiveness of traditional reading instruction by attending to how much reading children actually do.
